With Roald Dahl 100 celebrations now in full swing, one unmissable event is the upcoming release of Steven Spielberg’s film, The BFG. Distributed by eOne, this eagerly awaited movie version of one of Roald Dahl’s best-loved stories premieres in the UK on 22 July, and looks set to be a blockbuster hit.
New publishing releases include OUP’s Oxford Roald Dahl Dictionary, which lovingly compiles Roald Dahl’s inventive, playful use of language and will serve as a swashboggling source of inspiration for a whole new generation of storytellers.
Also this month, Penguin Random House’s extensive Roald Dahl publishing programme will include an exclusive, limited edition copy of The BFG displaying never before seen illustrations by Quentin Blake.
The Roald Dahl licensing programme, which focuses on The BFG, Matilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, will see a whole host of new BFG products hitting stores during 2016, reflecting the essence of this much loved story. Rainbow Designs’ soft toy line includes a Whizzpopping BFG featuring no less than 8 authentic ‘whizzpops’, an award winner at this year’s Toy Fair. Other new BFG product launches include bedding, stationery, gifting, greeting cards and dress-up. New signings include personalized greetings cards from Moonpig and dream inspired adult apparel from BCI. Later in the year, Steiff will bring their unique style to a limited edition teddy bear of this beloved character.
